This page briefly describes the history of the Incinerator application but more importantly explains what is likely to happen next.

History
November 2010 – LRV submit a Project Specification document to East Renfrewshire Council
December/January 2011 – the Herald and the Extra both report negatively on the early plans proposed by LRV (insert links)
February 2011 – LRV hold public consultation events in Newton Mearns and Barrhead
February 2011 – LRV deliver a presentation to East Renfrewshire Council elected members and officers. For the first time, LRV drop the pretence that their project is not substantively an incinerator.
February 2011 – the incinerator proposal is debated in the Scottish Parliament, with none of the participating MSPs offering any support for LRV and all expressing great concerns about their plans (see <link> for details)
April – May 2011 – The LRV proposals become a significant feature of virtually all Eastwood Constituency and West of Scotland List candidates in the Scottish Parliamentary elections. All candidates state their opposition to the proposals.
May 2011 – LRV hold public consultation events in Newton Mearns and Barrhead
May 2011 – The Evening Times reports that “Bosses behind controversial plans to build a waste recycling plant and power station near Newton Mearns have admitted publishing inaccurate claims about the economic benefits of the scheme (see <linl>

What happens Next?

At the time of writing (early October 2011) we are waiting for the applications to be lodged with East Renfrewshire Council and with the Scottish Government (remember, because of the electricity generation element the application must go to both parties).  When the applications are lodged, we will have 21 days to object to East Renfrewshire Council and 28 days to object to the Scottish Government.  It is ESSENTIAL that separate objections are sent to these two parties, because the legislation affecting each bit on the incineration scheme is different.  We’ll post more details of this nearer the time.  Latest estimates suggest that an application could be made in January 2012.
