What you can do

WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT IT

There is a lot you can do now and in the coming months to help oppose the building of this incinerator.

Things to do NOW:
  • Get in contact with your local councillor and express your concerns about this development.  You can find a list of your councillors at the following link - http://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/council-and-government/politics-and-politicians-council-and-councillors.htm.  Because of the scale of this development the application will be voted on by the whole council, so every councillor can influence this decision.  Councillors will not be able to state a preference either way for the incinerator, but they are your elected members, and you have a right to ensure they aware of your feelings towards the incinerator.
  • Do the same for your local MPs and MSPs.  Remember these people depend on us for their votes and therefore their jobs.
  • Send us your email address (to info@dumptheincinerator.com).  This will ensure that we can alert you to when the applications are made, or to any events that are organised in association with the application
  •  Consider making a donation.  We are planning to engage lawyers and a QC to represent the community and assist in the creation of a formal opposition response.  We may also consider seeking professional technical advice to support our case against the incinerator.  We understand you may have questions about this, so get in touch via email (info@dumptheincinerator.com) and we can discuss this further with you
  • Spread the word.  For applications like this, apathy and complacency are the biggest risks we face.  Tell your neighbours, friends, relatives, employers about this, and get them engaged and signed up.
  • Provide specialist skills.  If you are an engineer, environmental consultant, lawyer, solicitor, journalist, waste expert – or anything you think could help fight this campaign – please get in touch.

Things to do in the near future:
  • We are preparing a number of arguments for use in opposition letters to both East Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government.  Once the applications are lodged we will only have 28 days in which to oppose.  So we’ll let you know the minute the application is lodged, and make available the letters on this web site, for you to download, customise and send in.  The more letters of opposition the better chance we have of defeating this application
  • Come along to any events we or other organise in the next few months.  Again we’ll let you know the details via this website
